Letter From the President:

It’s that time of year again!  School is back in session, the days are growing shorter and summer is fading into a distant memory.  ASCLS had a busy summer and a really great national meeting in Washington D.C..  Our Idaho delegation headed out on July 28th and flew into a very hot and humid Washington.  Myself along with Mary Lay, Debbie Shell and Holly Weinberg met up with LaNae Phillips, Susan Morris, Sonja Nehr-Kanet, DeAnna McMahon and Keila Poulsen to make our Idaho group!  Who knew such a small state could have so many people at the national meeting!!!  We enjoyed five action packed days of seminars, governance meetings, the Lab Expo, fine dining, sight seeing, and so much more.

The most exciting news to come out of the meeting was the repeal of the competitive bidding project and the announcement that the NCA and the ASCP-BOR have come to an agreement to start work on a single certifying agency!  Wow!  ASCLS members all over the country at all levels have been working hard on these two huge accomplishments.  Also, the first Leadership Academy graduated a class of ten.  These 10 individuals went through a year long training to become better leaders for ASCLS.  They produced a short membership video that is really great and also a booklet of ASCLS “stories”.  It’s great to see what ASCLS has done for so many lab professionals.  To learn more about the Leadership Academy visit ascls.org , click on “member center”, click on “leadership academy”.  There is also a link to Idaho’s website if you go to “Resources”, “State Societies”, “Idaho”.
